Oxio is a good fit if you want simple month-to-month cable internet, included equipment and a price that is not built around a short promotion. Its biggest limitation is just as clear: support is by text and live chat, not by phone.

Oxio review: the short answer
Our verdict
Oxio is worth considering for a household that can manage service online and has good cable service at its address. The plans are unlimited, there is no term contract, the required modem and a Wi-Fi router are included, and Oxio currently promises that customers can keep their signup price while they remain with the service.
Choose carefully if phone support, very fast upload speeds or a direct fibre connection matters to you. Oxio uses local cable networks and relies on network partners for some technician work. That can add a step when a line problem needs an on-site visit.

Oxio makes sense when
- You want unlimited home internet without a term contract.
- You are comfortable getting help by text or live chat.
- Cable service at your address is already reliable.
- You prefer included equipment and predictable billing.
Look elsewhere when
- You want to call support or visit a store.
- You need fibre-to-the-home upload speeds.
- You need a business account, service-level agreement or static IP.
- Your work cannot tolerate waiting for a partner technician.
Oxio plans and pricing
Oxio does not have one Canada-wide plan list. The speeds and prices shown at checkout depend on the service address and the cable network available there. As of this review, Oxio’s main website advertises unlimited plans starting at $45 per month and download speeds up to 1 Gbps. Selected offer pages can show different entry prices, so your address result is the number that matters.
Do not choose from an old price chart. Enter your address, save the checkout result and compare the full monthly price, download speed, upload speed and equipment. Our Canadian Internet Price Tracker can help you judge whether the offer is competitive.
What to record before you order
| Checkout item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Monthly price | Save a screenshot of the price and plan name offered to your address. |
| Download and upload speeds | Cable plans often have much slower uploads than downloads. |
| Equipment | Confirm which modem and router are being supplied and whether an extra mesh unit costs more. |
| Activation date | Allow enough time if you are moving. Oxio recommends ordering about two weeks ahead. |
| Installation details | Check whether the address qualifies for self-installation or needs a technician. |
| Current terms | Read the Ground Rules and guarantee conditions that appear with your order. |
How much speed should you buy?
Start with what your household does, not the fastest number on the page. These ranges are practical starting points, not promises about which Oxio tiers will appear at every address.
50 to 100 Mbps
One or two people browsing, streaming and making video calls.
100 to 300 Mbps
A typical household with several connected devices and regular streaming.
300 to 500 Mbps
A busy home with multiple streams, downloads and people working online.
500 Mbps to 1 Gbps
Large households, frequent large downloads or many active users at once.
Read our internet speed guide before paying for gigabit service. If cost is the main concern, put the address-specific offer into the Internet Cost Calculator and compare the annual total.
How Oxio internet works
Oxio is a cable internet provider that sells service over local network infrastructure. The cable line to your home and some field work are handled through a network partner, while Oxio manages your account, billing, equipment and first-line support.
Oxio uses the phrase fibre-powered in its marketing. That does not mean every customer gets fibre to the home. In most cases, the final connection into the home is coaxial cable. If upload speed is important, compare the offer with a direct fibre plan and read our guide to fibre, cable, DSL, 5G and satellite internet.
Network
Service is address-specific and delivered over cable infrastructure available in the area.
Ownership
Cogeco completed its acquisition of Oxio’s telecommunications business in March 2023. Oxio continues to operate under its own brand.
Account type
Oxio’s Ground Rules describe the service as personal and residential. A business that needs business terms should use a business provider.
Modem, router and installation
Oxio supplies the required modem and a Wi-Fi router as loaned equipment. The exact model can vary by region and stock. Oxio’s current equipment page lists the Adtran 841, eero 6 and Oxio WiFi Pod among the router models customers may receive.
| Equipment question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Can I use my own modem? | No. Oxio requires its supplied modem for the service. |
| Can I use my own router? | Yes. There is no plan discount, and Oxio cannot troubleshoot a router it did not supply. |
| Is equipment included? | The required modem and one supplied Wi-Fi router are included as loaned equipment. |
| Can I add mesh coverage? | Extra compatible units may be available for a monthly fee. Check the current price before ordering. |
| Is a coax cable included? | No. Oxio recommends an RG6 coax cable no longer than six feet. |
| What happens after cancellation? | Loaned equipment must be returned. Oxio’s current Ground Rules give customers 21 days and list charges for missing or damaged equipment. |
Wi-Fi coverage is separate from internet speed. A fast plan will not fix a weak signal at the far end of a home. Before renting another unit, see our mesh Wi-Fi comparison and modem and router guide.
Where Oxio is available
Oxio currently lists service in six provinces. Coverage is not province-wide, and two homes in the same city can see different plans. The address checker is the only reliable way to confirm availability and speed.

Moving soon? Oxio recommends starting the order about two weeks in advance. Its current moving page says there is no activation or moving fee, but a technician appointment may still be needed. You can also compare providers through our internet-by-city guides.
Customer support: good for texters, wrong for callers
Oxio does not operate a customer-service phone line. Customers can use live chat or text 1-877-799-6033. Oxio’s help centre currently lists customer care from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and technical support from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. Holiday hours can differ.
What works well
- There is a written record of the conversation.
- Simple billing and setup questions can be handled without waiting on hold.
- Technical support runs later than general customer care.
What to plan for
- There is no number to call for a live conversation.
- Line repairs and technician visits may require coordination with a network partner.
- A home that depends on internet for work should have a backup connection.
If the connection is slow, test with Ethernet before blaming the plan. Our Canadian internet speed test guide explains how to collect useful evidence for support.
Price promise, guarantee and fees
Oxio’s simple pitch is real, but the details still matter. Here is the practical reading of its current public pages and Ground Rules.
Fixed-price promise
Oxio currently says customers keep the price they sign up for as long as they remain with the service. Save the offer and final order. The formal agreement still allows changes with notice, so this is best described as Oxio’s current pricing promise, not an unchangeable legal guarantee.
60-day guarantee
New customers can ask to use the guarantee within 60 days of activation, but it is conditional. The account must be paid, technical problems must first be worked through with support, and all equipment must be returned. Finding a cheaper plan by itself is not a qualifying reason.
Cancellation
You can cancel through the client portal or by contacting Oxio. Returning or unplugging the equipment does not cancel the account by itself. Return shipping is covered, and the supplied equipment must be sent back.
Possible fees to know about
| Item | Current published treatment |
|---|---|
| Activation, shipping and standard installation | Oxio currently lists these at $0. |
| Account processing | The Ground Rules list a $30 fee for applicable account processing. |
| Returned payment | The Ground Rules list a $12 non-sufficient-funds fee. |
| Seasonal suspension | A one-time $30 fee may apply, depending on the network. |
| Extra Wi-Fi equipment | Charged at the current rental rate. |
| Unreturned or damaged equipment | Model-specific replacement charges can apply. |
Fees and terms can change. Check the version shown during checkout rather than relying on a screenshot from an older review.
Oxio compared with other internet providers
The best comparison is based on support, connection type and the actual offer at your address. Regular prices from another provider are not useful if a local offer is different, so this table avoids made-up nationwide price matches.
| Question | Oxio | TekSavvy | Large network provider |
|---|---|---|---|
| How is support handled? | Text and live chat, no phone support | Phone and online support | Usually phone, chat and sometimes stores |
| What connection might I get? | Cable service where available | Varies by address and plan | May include cable or direct fibre, depending on provider and address |
| How is pricing presented? | Current fixed-price promise with no term contract | Address-specific monthly plans | Promotional and regular pricing are common |
| Is equipment included? | Required modem and one Wi-Fi router included on loan | Depends on the current plan and equipment choice | Depends on the plan and promotion |
| Who is it best for? | People comfortable with online-only support | People who want an independent provider with phone access | People who value direct network control, bundles or fibre options |

Frequently asked questions
Is Oxio reliable?
Oxio uses established local cable infrastructure, but reliability depends on the line, neighbourhood network and wiring at your address. Oxio handles support and may need a network partner for field repairs. Ask neighbours about local cable outages and keep backup internet if downtime would stop your work.
Does Oxio raise prices?
Oxio’s current marketing promise says customers keep the price they signed up for as long as they stay with the service. We would still save the order confirmation and read the current agreement, which allows changes with notice. Calling it a current pricing promise is more accurate than calling it a permanent legal guarantee.
Is Oxio fibre internet?
Oxio describes its network as fibre-powered, but the connection into most customers’ homes is cable rather than fibre to the home. Check the technology and upload speed shown for your address if you need a true fibre connection.
Who owns Oxio?
Cogeco completed its acquisition of Oxio’s telecommunications business on March 3, 2023. Oxio continues to operate under its own consumer brand.
Does Oxio require a contract?
No fixed-term contract is required. The service is billed month to month. You still need to follow the cancellation process and return the loaned equipment.
Can I use my own router with Oxio?
Yes. Oxio still requires its modem, and using your own router does not lower the monthly plan price. Oxio also cannot troubleshoot equipment it did not supply.
Does Oxio have phone support?
No. Support is provided through live chat and text. This is convenient for people who prefer written support, but it is a poor fit for anyone who needs to speak with an agent by phone.
How does Oxio’s 60-day guarantee work?
It applies to qualifying first-time customers who ask within 60 days of activation. The account must be paid, technical issues must first be worked through with support, and all loaned equipment must be returned. A cheaper offer elsewhere is not enough on its own to qualify.
