Vidéotron Internet Review 2026: Plans, Prices & Terms

Quick answer: Vidéotron is one of the strongest all-around home-internet choices in Quebec if you want no-term service, local phone or store support, Helix TV, mobile bundles and fast downloads. The main caution is the word fibre. Most current plans use Vidéotron’s network of fibre and coaxial cable, so upload speeds are much lower than downloads. The 2.5 GIGA plan is the selected-area exception: it is fibre to the home with up to 2.5 Gbps in both directions.

For most homes, start with Internet 500. It is fast enough for several streams, calls, games and downloads. GIGA costs only $5 more on the current public offer, so it can be reasonable for a very busy household. If you regularly upload large video projects, run heavy cloud backups or have several remote workers, compare Bell Pure Fibre or EBOX fibre unless Vidéotron’s symmetrical 2.5 GIGA appears at your address.

Our verdict: Put Vidéotron on the shortlist when the 500 or GIGA offer is competitive at your address, or when Quebec-based support and Helix bundles matter. Put Bell Pure Fibre on the same list when upload speed matters. Check Fizz and oxio when price matters more than phone support. Do not buy 2 GIGA or 2.5 GIGA only because the number is bigger. Buy it when your workload and home network can use it.

How we reviewed Vidéotron: InternetAdvice.ca has not installed and lab-tested every Vidéotron connection. We checked the current plan pages, detailed offer conditions, gateway specifications, cancellation and equipment-return instructions, CRTC rules and CCTS complaint reporting. We separate facts published by those sources from our plan recommendation. Where the answer depends on the address, building, gateway model or written offer, we say so.

Vidéotron Helix Plans and Prices in 2026

The table below is a snapshot of Vidéotron’s public English plan pages checked on October 16, 2026. These offers are for eligible new customers at qualifying addresses. An existing customer, a moving customer or a different address can receive another price or plan list.

Included on the current pages: unlimited usage, rental of an available Helix Fi gateway model, the Helix Fi management app and Advanced Security. Taxes are extra. Self-installation is free where available; Vidéotron lists a $99 professional installation charge when installation is required. Confirm every item in the order summary.

“Lifetime discount” does not mean a lifetime fixed bill. The current GIGA offer is a useful example: the page shows an $86 service rate and a $6 monthly discount, producing an $80 advertised price. Vidéotron says the discount continues while the qualifying plan is maintained. Its contract support page also says the current service rate is not guaranteed and may increase. In plain language, the $6 discount can remain while the price before the discount changes.

Which tier is the best value?

Internet 500 is the sensible default. It provides five times the download speed of Internet 100 for $7 more on the current offer. That is enough capacity for most homes if the Wi-Fi is healthy. GIGA is only another $5, so it is a fair upgrade for a larger household or frequent game and file downloads. It does not improve the listed 50 Mbps upload speed.

The 2 GIGA plan is harder to justify. A single device needs multi-gigabit Ethernet and suitable hardware to get beyond 1 Gbps, and Wi-Fi results will be lower. The 2.5 GIGA plan is different because it adds dramatically faster upload speed. At the current advertised $85 price, it is the best technical offer in the lineup when it is truly available at the address and the household can use it.

Use our Canadian internet speed guide before paying for a bigger tier. Then put the service rate, discount, installation and equipment into the Internet Cost Calculator. The Canadian Internet Price Tracker adds a wider market comparison.

Vidéotron Plan and Address Matcher

This tool gives you a starting point, not a sales recommendation. Choose what the address checker shows, how your household uses the connection and what matters most. The result will not hide a weak upload speed behind a large download number.

Questions to ask before you order

  • What exact download and upload speeds will my address receive?
  • Is the last connection into my home coaxial cable or fibre?
  • What is the service rate before the lifetime discount?
  • Can that service rate rise while the discount continues?
  • Which Helix Fi gateway model will I receive, and is rental included?
  • Will I pay an installation charge, and what equipment must be returned later?

Is Vidéotron Fibre or Cable?

It can be either, and this is the most important technical detail in the review. Vidéotron describes its main network as a combination of fibre optics and coaxial cable. Fibre carries traffic through much of the network, while coaxial cable can complete the final connection into the home. This is hybrid fibre-coax, often shortened to HFC.

HFC is not bad internet. It can deliver excellent downloads and is a strong fit for streaming, browsing, gaming and ordinary remote work. Its limitation is upload speed. The current GIGA plan lists 1 Gbps down but only 50 Mbps up. That difference matters when several people send large files, back up photos, host video calls or create livestreams.

Public tierDownloadUploadConnection detail to confirmWhat it means at home
100100 Mbps30 MbpsMain plan terms reference Vidéotron’s fibre-and-coax networkEnough for light use and several normal calls
500500 Mbps50 MbpsMain plan terms reference fibre and coaxStrong downloads; adequate uploads for many homes

2 GIGA2 Gbps200 MbpsAvailable in selected areas on the broader networkBetter upload, but still not symmetrical
2.5 GIGA2.5 Gbps2.5 GbpsSelected 100% fibre-to-the-home areasBest Vidéotron option for upload-heavy work

The plain-English question to ask: “Does fibre enter my home, and what exact upload speed is written on my plan?” A phrase such as powered by fibre describes the network broadly. It does not by itself promise fibre-to-the-home or matching upload and download speeds. Our fibre, cable, DSL, 5G and satellite guide explains the difference.

Can one device use 2 or 2.5 Gbps?

Usually not without the right wired hardware. A standard gigabit Ethernet port tops out below the full speed after overhead. To make meaningful use of a multi-gig plan, you need a gateway port, network adapter, switch and cable that support more than 1 Gbps. Vidéotron’s 2.5 GIGA page also notes that a combination of devices may be needed to reach the plan’s maximum. For many families, the benefit is shared capacity across devices, not a 2.5 Gbps result on one phone.

Helix Fi Gateway and Home Wi-Fi

The Helix Fi gateway combines the modem and Wi-Fi router in one device. Vidéotron’s current terms include gateway rental while the eligible internet plan is maintained, but they also say the available model can vary. That matters because the white Helix Fi 2 gateway supports Wi-Fi 6 and includes one 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port plus three 1 Gbps LAN ports.

Do not assume every order gets the same hardware. Ask which model is on the order summary, especially for a multi-gig plan. If you are unsure what an all-in-one gateway does, read our modem versus router versus gateway guide. Our Wi-Fi 6, 6E and 7 guide explains what compatible devices can actually use.

Fix Wi-Fi before buying more speed

  • Run a test near the gateway, then repeat it in the slow room.
  • Use Ethernet for one test when possible. This separates the internet connection from the Wi-Fi signal.
  • Place the gateway in an open, central and elevated location instead of a cabinet or basement corner.
  • If the near-gateway result is good but one room is weak, compare a mesh system, pod, extender or better router before changing the plan.
  • If the wired result is also poor, record the time and result before contacting support.

Start with the Internet Speed Test Canada, then use our mesh Wi-Fi versus extender versus router guide. Faster internet entering the home does not repair a weak radio signal upstairs.

Where Vidéotron Internet Is Available

Vidéotron is primarily a Quebec home-internet provider. It has broad service in Greater Montreal and many communities across Quebec, plus limited residential availability in parts of Eastern Ontario near the Quebec border. Coverage is still address-specific. A store that sells Vidéotron mobile service does not prove that wired home internet reaches the building.

The 2 GIGA plan launched in selected parts of Montreal, Laval and Quebec City in April 2026, with expansion planned. The symmetrical 2.5 GIGA tier is tied to selected fibre-to-the-home areas, including communities reached through Quebec’s Operation High Speed build. Enter the full civic address and unit number. Do not infer 2.5 GIGA availability from a neighbour, a postal code or the presence of GIGA.

Vidéotron Alternatives in Quebec

The best alternative depends on why Vidéotron is not the right fit. Bell and EBOX can solve an upload-speed problem where true fibre is available. Fizz and oxio can solve a price problem if online support is acceptable. Cogeco and building-fibre providers matter in their local footprints.

Vidéotron versus Bell: the simple decision

Choose Vidéotron when its final price is better, you value Quebec-focused support or Helix bundles, and 50 to 200 Mbps of upload is enough. Choose Bell when Pure Fibre reaches the home, upload performance matters and the full written price is reasonable. If Vidéotron 2.5 GIGA fibre reaches the home, compare it directly with Bell’s fibre offer because both can provide symmetrical performance.

Vidéotron versus Fizz: support or savings

Fizz is usually the more natural price comparison because it belongs to the same Quebecor group and uses Vidéotron infrastructure in supported areas. Vidéotron adds phone help, stores, Helix TV and fuller bundle choices. Fizz emphasizes online self-service and internet-only value. The network family can be similar while the customer experience is not.

Installation, Cancellation and Equipment Returns

Vidéotron’s current residential internet pages advertise no commitment. Its contract support page says there is no penalty for unsubscribing. If older Helix equipment was purchased on an instalment plan, however, the remaining balance can still become due. Current new-customer pages describe the gateway as rented and included while the eligible plan is maintained, so the order summary should say whether your hardware is rented, loaned or owned.

Current practical rules: cancellation must be requested by phone; it cannot be completed in My Account. Rented equipment normally goes back to a Vidéotron store. The general return page says equipment should be returned within 30 days after a service change, while a separate Helix switching guide gives 14 days for some older borrowed equipment. Follow the shorter deadline in the instructions sent for your account, return every power supply and accessory requested, and keep the receipt until the final bill is settled.

Installation charges

Self-installation is listed at no charge where the address and technology allow it. The current plan terms list $99 for professional installation when required. A physical installation charge is different from a generic activation fee. CRTC rules enforced since June 12, 2026 prohibit activation and plan-modification fees covered by the Internet Code, while still allowing reasonable physical installation charges and optional products a customer chooses.

Your Internet Code protections

The written contract should clearly show the price, promotion, time-limited credits, speed and key conditions. If the permanent contract conflicts with the offer you accepted, the CRTC says an individual customer can cancel within 45 days without an early cancellation fee or other penalty. A service with an early cancellation fee must also provide a trial period of at least 15 days. These rights do not erase reasonable usage or equipment-return rules.

Before cancelling, use the Canadian modem return checklist. It includes the receipt, serial-number and final-bill steps that prevent a routine return from becoming an expensive dispute.

Customer Service and Complaint Record

Vidéotron offers phone, chat and store support, plus the Helix Fi app for network management. That is a practical advantage over digital-only brands for people who want to speak with someone or bring equipment to a counter. It does not guarantee that every billing or repair experience will be easy, so the complaint data needs a careful reading.

Latest provider-specific CCTS result: In the August 2024 to July 2025 report, the CCTS accepted 394 complaints about the Vidéotron brand across internet, wireless, TV and phone services. That was 1.7% of all accepted complaints and 6.6% lower than the prior year. The report says 36% of issues raised about Vidéotron concerned internet, and internet issues fell 12%. Its resolution rate was 88.4% and the report recorded no confirmed code breaches for the brand.

Those are raw brand totals, not a home-internet reliability score. They are not adjusted for customer count, and one complaint can raise several issues. The CCTS reported a sharp industry-wide rise to 41,235 accepted complaints in 2025–26, but its October 15, 2026 update did not yet publish a provider breakdown. That breakdown is expected with the full report in January 2027, so it would be misleading to assign the national increase to Vidéotron now.

Protect yourself before the first bill

  • Save the page, chat or order summary that shows the service rate and discount.
  • Write down whether the quoted connection is coaxial or fibre-to-the-home.
  • Confirm the installation method, charge and gateway ownership in writing.
  • Read the first bill immediately and compare every credit with the order.
  • Keep chat transcripts, reference numbers and equipment-return receipts.

If support cannot correct a billing problem, follow our guide to disputing an internet bill in Canada. The internet bill complaint letter generator can turn your dates, amounts and requested solution into a clean written record. Eligible unresolved complaints can then go to the CCTS at no cost.

Before You Order: Seven-Minute Checklist

  1. Enter the complete civic address and apartment or condo unit.
  2. Write down the exact download and upload speeds, not only the plan name.
  3. Ask whether coaxial cable or fibre enters the home.
  4. Separate the service rate from the lifetime discount and any bundle credit.
  5. Confirm the gateway model, ownership, installation charge and return method.
  6. Compare Bell, Fizz and at least one independent or lower-cost option at the same address.
  7. Install and test the new service before cancelling the old one whenever possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Vidéotron internet worth it in 2026?

Yes, it is worth comparing in Quebec. Internet 500 is a practical starting tier, GIGA is currently only $5 more, and the plans are advertised with unlimited usage, an included rental gateway and no commitment. It is less attractive for upload-heavy work on regular cable-based tiers. Compare Bell Pure Fibre or EBOX fibre when fast uploads matter, and compare Fizz or oxio when the lowest price matters.

Does Vidéotron use fibre or cable?

Both. Vidéotron’s main network combines fibre optics and coaxial cable, so many homes receive hybrid fibre-coax service. The selected-area 2.5 GIGA plan is explicitly fibre to the home and symmetrical. Ask what cable physically enters your home and check the written upload speed.

How much does Vidéotron internet cost?

On October 16, 2026, the public plan pages showed Internet 100 at $68, Internet 500 at $75, GIGA at $80, 2 GIGA at $85 and 2.5 GIGA symmetrical at $85 per month for eligible new customers. Taxes are extra. Each price includes a conditional lifetime discount, and the underlying service rate can change.

Is the Vidéotron lifetime price guaranteed?

No. Vidéotron describes the current monthly discount as lasting while the qualifying plan is maintained. Its support information says the current service rate itself is not guaranteed and may increase. Save both numbers: the price before the discount and the amount of the discount.

Does Vidéotron require a contract?

The current public home-internet lineup is advertised with no commitment. Vidéotron says there is no penalty for unsubscribing. A remaining balance can still apply if older Helix equipment was purchased on an instalment plan, and rented equipment must be returned as instructed.

Is the Helix Fi gateway included?

Gateway rental is included on the current eligible public offers while the plan is maintained. The gateway model can vary. Ask which model will be supplied, especially for a 2 or 2.5 Gbps plan, and confirm whether every pod or TV terminal has a separate charge.

Is Vidéotron good for gaming?

It can be. Most online games use little bandwidth, so stable latency, Ethernet and good Wi-Fi matter more than buying 2 Gbps. Internet 500 is enough for gaming in many homes. Test ping and packet stability before upgrading. Our Canadian gaming internet guide explains what to measure.

Is Vidéotron better than Bell or Fizz?

Vidéotron is often the better fit for Quebec support, Helix TV, mobile bundles and a no-term cable option. Bell Pure Fibre is often stronger for uploads when fibre reaches the home. Fizz is often better for a price-focused household that is comfortable with online self-service. Compare the exact address, upload speed and full written price.
